Amanda's Guestbook:

I can't wait to read your book! I have been praying for Amanda for four years now. My 8 year old daughter has FSGS too. Reading Amanda's story, seeing her strength and that of her mother's Tracy has given me strength. Lynn, you are a wonderful friend to do this for them. May God richly bless you all.

Hi Amanda ,Tracy & Jessie. Each day we continue to pray to God for you, knowing that He can do all things, since He created all things and everyone. We miss seeing you, Tracy and Jessie at First Baptist Church. We do see Jacob, but he isn't as pretty as you. We have two Scottish Terriers who also want to see you when you visit us again. However, they might lick the nose off your face. Loving you always, in Jesus our Savior and Lord - Ken & Annita Ready.

My son Matthew Waite has just been diagnosed with fsgs and tubular hypertrophy. He deals with frequent severe migraines (throwing up) and have occurred at times when I as a mother also noticed his fluxuating blood pressure. We have an appointment at Loma Linda in April 2006. Is it possible that these migraines are related to his kidney disease?

I was looking for info on cell cept and rapamune and I stumbled upon your story. You are a very brave little girl! When I was 12 yrs old I had a liver transplant. I waited for 16 months to be transplanted. I was in and out of the hospital all the time. It was the longest battle I fought. I am 22 now and I have a daughter of my own. I am doing well now--I know things will turn out ok for you! Just keep your head up and keep praying! You are in my thoughts and prayers!

03/24/06 Dear Amanda, I am so excited to hear that you have accepted Christ as your personal Savior! Praise the Lord! I will look for your picture in the People magazine. I hope by the time you get this note that you are feeling much better. I am so sorry you have had to be back in the hospital. You all are in my heart and prayers. Tracey, I'm lifting y'all up! Love, Mrs. Beth

Amanda is a very pretty girl. I have had kidney failure since I was 9 years old and came across this site. I am now 32 and have had a transplant for 11 years but am on dialysis again for the last 5. The courage of a child is amazing throughout the years that a child grows. I know my childhood was very hard and anything but normal. I just wanted to say she is an amazing and beautiful young girl. Good luck!

Try and E-mail me back! :)

It brings me sorrow that people cry for wanting a toy, or for wanting their way, while others cry for the sadness and pain which lies beneath their hearts. Just remember that their are people who care for you. You are a good role model for anyone.

My daughter Madison is 6 and is in the first grade. I also have a son named Matthew who is in the 4th grade and is 10 1/2. We found out Madison was sick the fall of 2003 when she was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome. The normal story of waking up with swollen eyes and severe edema was how it all came about. I really think she had it long before then as there were little symptoms along the way but were always passed off as nothing to worry about by her pediatrician. She had her first biopsy that year and has had one each year since then. She just had her third one and we went yesterday for the results. To look at her you would never know she was sick. She feels good and is able to go to school and do all the normal things a 6 year old should do. However, the disease is there and is progressing in spite of the many medications she is on. We know the meds help and are what is keeping her from being in the Nephrotic range, but the meds aren't stopping the progression. We were heart broken yesterday to learn that the disease has gone from 5% scarring to 25% just in the last year. We had hopes that there would be no or little additional scarring, but it wasn't to be. Madison being only 6 has no idea of what can happen nor understands why I was crying yesterday as we got that news. She is very smart but she is too little to be told what exactly is going on with her body. She just knows she has to take a lot of medicine and has to have blood drawn a lot. We continue to not let our faith be wavered and trust in the Lord to take care of Madison and get us through this. We also try to help the Nephcure organization by hosting an annual golf tournament each year. When Madison first got sick I stumbled across Amanda's website in my desperate attempt to find answers. I have been praying for Amanda ever since then, as well as Tracey and the rest of their family. I draw strength from Tracey as she pours her heart out on the website. So their site has been a source of inspiration and such a blessing to me in spite of the hardship and trials they face. My heart aches for Amanda and it is not out of sympathy but out of compassion that I try to let them know we care. I try not to be afraid of what the future holds for us but it is hard. We do have so much to be thankful for in spite and we give God the glory for those blessings. I believe God wants us to bloom where we are planted so that is why I pray for Amanda and do what I feel led to do to help. I try to be an encouragement to others facing this same thing, that's what the Bible says to do. Take care, Beth

Hi Amanda, I just learned about your story on the website today from your grandmother. I spoke to her on the phone today to reach your mother. I have been reading your story for a long time and thinking about you. I wish I had known about your situation long time ago. I guess your mother and I lost contact for few years. I am so sorry to hear about what is happening to you. I am shocked. I sure hope the doctors can find a cure to ease your pain. We will keep you in our prayers. By the way, your mother and I were roommates in college back in the late 80's. I miss talking to her. I hope to hear from her real soon. I will be coming out to California the first week of October.

My 6 year old daughter has been recently diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome. After 3 months of steroids, IV pulses and even chemo she has not responded. We are going to do her biopsy this thursday to confirm the diagnosis of FSGS. When I showed my daughter her pictures, she said "hey mom she is wearing a mask just like me" I explained to her that Amanda has the same disease and how brave Amanda has been. Thank you for sharing your story. I know there are many ups and downs of this disease, but sharing those ups and downs can keep other parents aware of symptoms to watch for and treatment options. We pray every night for a cure and know we are praying for you too Amanda! Thanks and God Bless.

Dear Amanda: Just yesterday I learned about your web page from some friends of yours in Carson City. I wish I had known sooner. I have known your Grandpa, Grandma and your Mom for many years. I have known about your problem for a long time and have kept you in my daily prayer. I pray that God and His Son Jesus will performed on you the greatest miracle that the world has ever heard of. Also tell your mom that MISTER Turner wrote you a short note. Your Mom grew up with my daughter and some day God willing I'll tell you of the troubles that they got into together. In all the years that I knew your mom I could never get her to call me Norm it was always Mister Turner. Dear God, bless Amanda and if it is Your Will bring her healing. Please send your Holy Spirit to bring her comfort and peace. In the name of our Savior JESUS I pray. Next time you read your Bible please read Roman: 8: 28-39 Give my love to your mom and grand parent and you a special hug from MISTER Turner

my grandaughter has just been diagnosted with MCD and possible FSGS. Where can we turn for information.

My daughter Kathleen has been a patient of Dr. Cutler's at Loma Linda Medical Center since he diagnosed her at 22 months of age with MCNS. He and his partner, Dr. Sahney, are excellent nephrologists and look forward to working with Dr. Yorgin. I am anxious to meet Dr. Yorgin and find out more regarding his plan of treatment for kids with FSGS. My daughter Kathleen's nephrotic syndrome progressed to FSGS last year and she was placed on the national transplant list in November of 2004. She received her new kidney on April 20, 2005 at Loma Linda Medical Center. She is currently undergoing plasmapharesis 3 times per week with excellent results so far. I too hope we can find a cure for this disease so that other children will not have to suffer as ours have. I have contacted a doctor at Brigham and Women's hospital in Boston who is currently doing research on familial FSGS. I hope to include our family in his research as they seek to find a cause and cure for this disease. I hope we will have an opportunity to meet sometime as we share our struggle for a good life for our daughters. Sincerely,
Frances

Tracey. This is Tracy. It has been awhile, we have both been battling with diferent aspects of kidney disease. I apologize it has taken some time to follow up, but, I pray for you, Amanda, and your family every day. We live in So Cal, so if you ever need a shoulder to lean on or anything, please remember that I am right here for you. Unfortunately, it is hard for many to understand all of the complications and effects of kidney disease, and how many different aspects there are. Please, please let me know if I can help in any way. Love, Tracy

Dear Tracy, Amanda and family: I am a friend of Amy Lenord's in Colorado and have been following your stroy. I feel very drawn to your situation for many reasons, yet my situation is different. I am the daughter taking care of my mom who is still very young for all that she has endured in the past nine years. I have young children of my own that pulls your struggles to my heart. I hear similar requests and stories form my mom as I hear Amanda. (I have a little sister named Amanda ;) I am anxious to purchase several of the bracelets to visually spread the word for financial needs. I have a very deep understanding of both of your feelings and send you prayers each day I speak with God. I am certain he is listening and everything truly does happen for a reason. Keep remembering this Amanda: Every day is a good day, some days are better than others, but everyday is good! My mom and dad have been telling me that since I was a litte girl. There is much to hold onto i that little sentence. I send you warmth and the strength wrapped in a deep long hug. My thoughts are with you often. Be strong and hold onto the love in your family, it's the very thing that gets me through each day! Love, Kim Slayton

Get better soon, Amanda. Always remember that God loves you and watches over you every day. My daughter is due to have a baby in two weeks. She already has a little girl almost three. There's a special place in my heart for little girls as I have four daughters of my own. Love,
Pat McCage

Amanda... you seem to be the strongest little lady there is! May God continue to watch over you and your family and give you the blessings you deserve. I am a friend of you mom's friend, Lynn. Continue to be strong....

Amanda I truly hope you are feeling better. It's Katelyn again. I would love it so much for you to feel better. I told this to my friends and I think it will make you feel better. You should say "I think I can, I think I can,"and you should say that a lot. I really hope you get better.

Hi Amanda- My name is Amanda too! My Mom (Lesley Plank) played softball with your Mom at CSUN. I'm sorry you are not feeling well. I will keep you in my prayers and will think of you often.

Dear Amanda and family, Just a note to let you know our family still has you in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. Our daughter Madison, who will be 6 on 05/19, has FSGS too. Yesterday we hosted a golf tournament for Nephcure in hopes to raise awareness and funds towards finding a cure for everyone dealing with this dreaded disease. You were in my thoughts yesterday as we were so blessed with support at our tournament. Ed Hearn, former NY Mets World Series '86 baseball player, joined us for the day. He took time to shake hands and meet everyone there. He too has FSGS and knew what we are going through. He delivered an inspirational message encouraging everyone to "keep swinging" in spite of life's curves. Amanda, I encourage you to keep your faith. Jesus loves you now as much as ever. There won't be any need for medicine or needles or pain in heaven. We have that to look forward to. In the meantime, try to remember that though the nurses have to inflict physical pain, they do so because they want you to get better. They give their life to help others. I don't know how they do it, but I am glad they do. Tracey, you are a wonderfully strong mother, you are an inspiration to me. Thank you for taking the time to keep us updated on your lives. Don't feel guilty when you don't have time to write, just know that we are still praying for you.
Beth Ann Turner from Sandersville, Ga.

Dear Tracey, Amanda, Jacob and Jessica, We miss you and we are very, very sad and concerned to read your messages of all that you have experienced during these past months. So much difficulty and also so much love and faith. We will always keep you in our prayers. My niece, Alison Hansen was diagnosed with Henoch-Schonlein Purpura in January. She lives in southern California. I think that maybe she has been to Loma Linda. I just thought that I would mention her name just in case you had met her in the hospital. Both she and Amanda are two of the prettiest little girls. We will share your story so that heaven will receive so many prayers in love for you. We are with you.

Our family is grateful for the help, love, kindness and care she received. Amanda. sometimes it's impossible to understand why things are going on, but this I do know, God does see us through everything. Right now He has given you a friend, Kelly, to be with, encouraging and listening and talking to. I continue to pray for you and your family. You are really helping me. Much love to you.

Hello Amanda, I hope you are feeling good and wanted to let you know that I am thinking of you, always. Today is your moms Birthday and tell her I wish her an absolutely wonderful day. She is such a strong woman and I respect and admire her strength. This web site has done so much in getting the word out about this disease and your mom takes the time to answer every message she can while managing her very busy schedule of school, hospital visits and alot more. There has been college professors and nursing teachers write in and ask questions to you and your mom. There have been many families who have written in to ask questions about something their child or loved one has been experiencing related to the disease. This web site and your mom have done a good thing in informing those who wanted and needed to know about this disease as much as she can. How many times can I say how proud I am of you and your mom and the incredible strength you both have. Tracey, I wish you the Happiest Birthday I can ever wish to anybody. Love, Lynn

Dear Amanda: I teach nursing at a college in Texas and I was surfing the net for a cool site about Nephrotic Syndrome. I like to have students read 'real' stories about different problems because ya'll can tell it so much better than me. So, for homework, 50 of my students are going to visit your site. Its a wonderful site and I think you will have alot to teach them. What I want to know --- is there anything you think you'd like nurses to know? Like, what do you think they could really learn to do better (based on your experiences). I'd like to know too because even though I teach, I still work in a pediatric ER here in Corpus Christi. Anyway, good luck with your new kidney and thanks so much for sharing your story.
Liz Whitehurst

Dear Amanda, I am very moved to haer your story. You are very brave. While I was in the middle of your story, i was scared that there would be a bad ending, when I finished the story, I was so glad the you were alright. I hope that you live to my a hundred-and-ninty-nine years old. May ypu have health and happiness always. Love forever, Rebecca

Hello Amanda, Tracey and brother and twin sister. I went onto your website to get an update on Amanda and see a lot is going on that is out of your control. We are the other Carson City people who are treating at Stanford, but recently ran into a road block and flew back to the Cleveland Institute for a new regimen of care. Ashley is responding quite well, after both, she and I took a break from our normal routine and I left my state job and she left her high school and twin sister to receive home tutoring. Today, January 28th, marks Ashley's 1st full week of full time studies and she's ready to attend her 2nd drivers training class tomorrow all day at the community college. I know you and the family have huge faith and I would ask you all to stay strong. I will pray for Amanda tonight and update my girls of her situation. Tracey--I will be in Stanford next Friday for a check up and will try to see you--hopefully not in the hospital. Our love and prayers--Jean Ann, Ashley & Briana

Hi Amanda, I was just going through alot of old papers to file, and came across "Your Story" that I had printed and saved. You probably don't remember me, but I met you at the Ronald McDonald House in California. I am Ty's Mom. His little sister was in the same hospital as you were. How are you and how is your Mom? Tell her hi for me! I have tried to e-mail her several times, to ask about you, but the e-mail only returned to me. I think of you often, and hope to hear from you, Love, Leah & Ty

Tracey- I am touched and very frightened by your story. My name is Margot LaPointe. I live in Brimfield, MA with my husband David and son Nathan, 12 years old. Nathan was recently diagnosed with Nephrosis. He is two weeks inot steriod therapy and is showing some improvement. Without a Biopsy, there is no way to know for sure what type of Nephrosis Nathan has or the ling term prognosis. He has very similar symptoms that Amanda does and I worry every day that he will experience more sickness and pain as time goes on. Nathan had Mono in late October and the Doctors at Childrens believe the two are related. I wrote because I am amazed at Amanda's strength and want you to know that Nathan and I have included her in our prayers. Bless you.
Margot LaPointe

Dear Amanda, Just a note to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas. I still think of you and pray for you. We are praying for a cure for FSGS and similar diseases. Our 5 year old daughter Madison just had her 2nd biopsy and her diagnosis was changed to FSGS, we are very saddened by this, but know our strength is in the Lord. I hope you get to play in the snow! My kids are praying for snow here in GA.!

Tracey: I don't know where to start. I stumbled upon your website the other night when I was feeling very sad and sorry for myself. My son, Ian, had a transplant in August, 2004, and we have been through numerous complications. All that I am told are very abnormal for a transplant child, but, when reading through your website, nothing, compared to yours. You have given me strength, and more importantly, I know that my son is not the only one's with feelings of "why did we even do this", etc., any more. If you would like to email me, please do at trahastings@yahoo.com. My son, Ian, is part of a study of non-steroid post transplant studies that started at Stanford. Actually, when he contracted EBV, one of our dr's. contacted Stanford regarding the study because Ian was in such a bad way. I pray for you and Amanda, and I think of you often. You are giving me strength. Tracy Hastings, Huntington Beach, California. P.S. Ian had his transplant at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles.

Amanda is a strong child and tracy, you are a strong mother. May god bless your family abundantly! Tomorow my son John will be having a kidney biopsy to see if he has a disease and how it can be treated. He shows no outward signs of illness. It was detected in a routine well child check-up that his urine had blood and protein in it. We are a faithfull family and believe in the power of God. My prayer will be with amanda and the rest of your family for these are hard times. I wish Amanda good health and blessings from God. Peace in God Lisa Klimowich

Amanda, Appreciated the update on your families move to California. Trust your test today goes well. Know that it's hard to continue to continue with these various tests and not get the answers we'd all like. thought you might enjoy these recordings from flight maintenance people while they try to fix airplanes based on pilot's notes. After every flight, pilots fill out a form called a gripe sheet, which conveys to the mechanics problems encountered with the aircraft during the flight that need repair or correction. The mechanics read and correct the problem, and then respond in writing on the lower half of the form what remedial action was taken, and the pilots review the gripe sheets before the next flight. Never let it be said that ground crews and engineers lack a sense of humor. Here are some actual logged maintenance complaints and problems as submitted by Qantas pilots and the solution recorded by maintenance engineers. By the way, Qantas is the only major airline that has NEVER had an accident. (P = The problem logged by the pilot.) (S = The solution and action taken by the engineers.) P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement. S: Almost replaced left inside main tire. P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough. S: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft. P: Something loose in cockpit. S: Something tightened in cockpit. P: Dead bugs on windshield. S: Live bugs on back-order. P: Autopilot in altitude-hold mode produces a 200 feet per minute descent. S: Cannot reproduce problem on ground. P: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear. S: Evidence removed. P: DME volume unbelievably loud. S: DME volume set to more believable level. P: Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick. S: That's what they're there for. P: IFF inoperative. S: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode. P: Suspected crack in windshield. S: Suspect you're right. P: Number 3 engine missing. S: Engine found on right wing after brief search. P: Aircraft handles funny. S: Aircraft warned to straighten up, fly right, and be serious. P: Target radar hums. S: Reprogrammed target radar with lyrics. P: Mouse in cockpit. S: Cat installed. P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer. S: Took hammer away from midget. Smile God loves you and your family and so do all your friends who know you through Aunt Gay in Atlanta. Peace and prayers. bob hayes

Hi Tracey and Amanda, My name is Delanee and I also played softball with your Mom at CSUN. We actually lived together for a time. I enjoyed looking at your pictures. I noticed you playing with a doll house. I have a little girl who is 3 years old and loves to play with dolls. I know she would love to play dolls with you! You keep up fighting so we can get together soon and play dolls ( if that is not to babyish for you now). I remember meeting you when you where just a little baby. I really would like to meet the very courageous and brave young lady who have become. Your strengh and faith is amazing! Tracey your strength, courage and faith is an inspiration to me. Lisa has keep me updated on Amanda through e-mails. My children and I, pray for you all every night in our prayers. I guess this experience is sort of like running a 10K. No matter how much you may want to give up, you don't, you keep the faith and you just keep going to the end. I know you can make it. Stay strong. We all are thinking of you and sending prayers!

Hey cutie, we miss seeing you and laughing and playing. Can't wait until Kelly is no longer getting treatments on 2 North so he can visit you. That should be in August. Hope you are finding things to stay busy with and enjoying your summer. I saw you when we were there this last 2 weeks, but you were asleep so I just talked to your sister and your Mom. Take care kiddo. Love you, Becky Moravec PS. Kelly says "Hi"
